Generate a document from a template
Pick a template, have matter and client data filled in, and save a Word file to the matter
Last updated:
Practice fills a template with the client, matter and firm data and gives you a ready Word file saved in the matter's documents.
Steps
- From a matter or contact page press Generate from template, or open Documents and then Generate a document.
- In the first step, Template, choose the Matter and Client / contact, then the template from Firm templates or Site templates (site templates are reference templates: review them before use).
- In Data you see what was taken From the matter. Complete Missing values (this does not change the matter itself) and Template fields. For party fields there are From client and From opposing party.
- In Preview and save review the text, type a Document name, Category and optional Folder, then choose Save as: New document or New version of: … for an existing document.
- Press Generate Word file and save. The document opens in the library with "Document generated and saved."
Dates and language
Merged values are always written in Arabic, and today's date appears in both Hijri and Gregorian. A field with no value stays a dotted blank, and the preview warns you how many there are.
The document is saved as Word only. For a PDF press Print / PDF and choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog.
Restrictions
- Generating is for owners, partners, lawyers and paralegals. Accountants cannot.
- The Free plan has a monthly limit on generated documents; see limits.
- If you find no templates, add one under firm templates.
