Document versions and history
Upload a new version of a document with a note, and download any earlier version
Last updated:
Every document in Practice keeps its successive versions, so the old file isn't lost when you revise it.
Upload a new version
- Open the document from Documents.
- In the Versions section press Upload new version and choose the file.
- In What changed? write a short note, e.g. "Revised the claims after client comments".
- After the upload the new version becomes Current and "New version added." appears.
What you see for each version
The version number, the file and its size, who uploaded it, its note and the file's SHA-256 fingerprint. Press Download on any version, including old ones. Download and preview links are valid for a few minutes; reload the page if one expires.
Details and activity
- Edit details lets you change the name, category, folder, matter, description and Retain until date (optional; it is informational only and neither deletes anything nor reminds you at present).
- The Activity section lists the document's events: creation, new versions, edits, sharing with the client, downloads, archive and deletion.
Good to know
- Archive hides the document from lists and you can Restore it; Delete permanently removes the document and all its versions, cannot be undone, and is for owners and partners only.
- If you see "You have read-only access to this document", you cannot edit it.
- The size of every version counts toward your storage.
