Log time with the timer or by hand
Run a timer on a matter or log hours by hand, how 6-minute rounding and the hourly rate work.
Last updated:
Every member of the firm can log time against matters; the accountant or a partner approves and invoices it later. The page is Time & expenses in the sidebar, and you can also log from the Fees & time section inside a matter.
With the timer
- At the top, under Start a timer, choose the matter and optionally write What are you working on?.
- Press Start. Timer running appears with the matter.
- When you finish press Stop & save (you can edit the description first), or Discard to log nothing.
Time is rounded up to the next 6 minutes, so 7 minutes is logged as 12. Each user can have one timer; starting a second shows "You already have a running timer; stop it first." A running timer is left out of lists and totals until you stop it.
By hand
In the Log time card: choose the Matter and Date, enter Hours, Minutes and Work description, keep Billable ticked if the work will be charged, then Log. Allowed duration is one minute to 24 hours. Owners, partners and the accountant also see a Member list so they can log for a colleague.
Hourly rate
The rate is fixed when you log: the member's rate first (Member hourly rates on the page), then the hourly rate in the matter's fee arrangement; otherwise it shows No rate. Changing a rate later does not change entries already logged.
