Portal settings and switching access off

Turn the portal on or off for the whole firm, and disable or re-enable a single client's access

Last updated:

You have two switches: one for the whole firm and one per client.

The firm switch

  1. Open Settings, then the Client portal tab (visible to owners and partners).
  2. Under Portal for the firm press Turn portal on or Turn portal off.
  3. Turning it off asks you to confirm: "Turn the portal off for all clients? None of them can sign in until you turn it back on."

While the portal is off no client can sign in or message you, and invitations and data are kept. You also can't invite a client or reply to one ("The portal is off for this firm."). When you turn it on again, everything returns as it was.

The same page has two lists, What can the client see? and What they never see, and a Clients with access table showing each client's state: active, disabled, invited, invitation expired. Click a name to open their card.

Disabling one client

  1. Open the contact and go to the Client portal card.
  2. Press Disable access and confirm: "They won't see their matters or documents until you re-enable it."
  3. To bring them back press Re-enable access. No new invitation is needed.

Disabling and enabling are available to owners, partners, lawyers and paralegals. While access is disabled they receive no messages, and the conversation shows "This client's portal access is disabled".
