Who can see matters: everyone or assigned only

The firm's matter-visibility setting and how it affects Lawyers and Paralegals.

Last updated:

The Owner or a Partner decides whether all members see all matters, or each lawyer sees only their own.

The options

In Settings under Who can see matters?:

  • Everyone — all members see all matters. This is the default.
  • Assigned only — each lawyer sees the matters assigned to them.

What happens with "Assigned only"

  • Owners, Partners and Accountants always see all matters.
  • A Lawyer or Paralegal sees a matter only if they are its responsible person or on its team.
  • What belongs to a matter (hearings, statutory deadlines, documents…) follows its visibility.
  • Accountants see matters but can't edit them.

Why can't I see a matter? Most often because the setting is "Assigned only" and you aren't assigned. Ask the matter's responsible person or a Partner to add you to its team.

How to change it

  1. Open Settings, then General (allowed roles: Owner and Partners).
  2. Choose one option and click Save. You see Saved ✓ and it applies immediately.

After the first save the step Choose who can see matters is ticked in the setup checklist.
