Drafting with the AI assistant
Write a memorandum, letter or notice from the matter's data, then review it and save it as a Word document
Last updated:
The assistant writes a draft from the matter's data and your instructions, and it stays a draft until you review it. Estimate: ≈ 8 points.
Steps
- Open the matter and, in the AI assistant card, choose the Draft tab.
- Choose the Type: memorandum, letter, notice or free-form document.
- Type the Title (e.g. "Reply memorandum") and Instructions: defences, requests, tone.
- Optionally pick a Template (optional) from Firm templates or Site templates; it is merged with the matter's values and sent to the assistant to build on.
- Press Write the draft. The text appears progressively, and you can Stop the request (no points are charged when you stop).
- Review and edit the draft ("Review and edit the draft before saving"). What the assistant couldn't find is marked
[to be completed: …]for you to fill in. - Press Save as a matter document (.docx). A Word file is saved in the matter's documents and Open document appears.
What marks the saved document
- It carries at the top "Draft by the AI assistant — review before use" and shows a banner to that effect on its page.
- Its category: Memo for a memorandum, Correspondence for a letter or notice, and Other for a free-form document.
- It is not counted toward the generated-documents limit because it is counted in assistant points, but it does use storage.
Who can save
Saving is for those who can edit matters: owners, partners, lawyers and paralegals. Writing and previewing don't require that.
