Legal questions

My privacy when I ask a question: anonymous name and personal-data removal

What the public sees, how to stay anonymous, and what the site removes automatically.

Last updated:

Legal questions are published publicly so everyone can benefit, so we protect you in two ways: your choice of displayed name, and automatic removal of personal data.

What does the public see?

The text of the question (after review), its practice area and city, and your name as you choose it.

How do I stay anonymous?

  • Turn on Show my question as "Anonymous" and your question appears without a name.
  • Or enter your first name only under Display name. If you leave the display name empty the question is shown as "Anonymous".

Your email and phone are not shown to the public on the question.

What does the site remove automatically?

The automatic review scans the text and removes or hides personal data it finds, such as names, ID numbers, phone numbers and case numbers, and may lightly rephrase for that. If something was changed, we keep the original text for the review team only and it is never shown to the public.

If your situation needs full confidentiality, contact a lawyer directly instead of asking publicly. Ways to contact
