Finding a lawyer

What do the "Verified" and "Featured lawyer" badges mean?

The difference between verification, a featured plan, and an unclaimed profile — and what badges do not guarantee.

Last updated:

Three different states appear on profiles, and they should not be confused.

  • Verified (Verified lawyer): the lawyer submitted their Ministry of Justice licence and we checked that it matches at face value. The badge means licence details were submitted and reviewed; it is not a guarantee of service quality.
  • Featured lawyer: the office is on a paid plan that gives it higher placement in lists. It is advertising in nature, not a judgement of competence.
  • Unclaimed profile: a profile listed from public sources that its owner has not activated; the details are not confirmed by the office.

How do I use verification?

  • Turn on Verified only in the directory.
  • Answers in Legal Q&A come only from verified lawyers and show the Verified badge.
  • Ask the lawyer for their licence number and confirm it with the official bodies; that remains a sensible precaution.
